Backbone One mobile game controller is now 30% off

Most smartphone games are first and foremost designed to be played via touch controls. However, if you want to stream games from your Xbox or PlayStation, or you prefer games with more complex control schemes, such as Call of Duty: Mobile or diablo immortala mobile gaming grip like the Backbone One can make things more comfortable.

If that sounds appealing to you, Backbone is running a sale at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and its own online store, with the Lightning-based One version down to $70. While that’s not an all-time low, it’s still $30 less than the controller’s regular price.

That’s 30% off the Lightning-based version of Backbone’s excellent mobile gaming controller.

Amazon $70

Generally speaking, discounts on this device are uncommon. This offer applies to both the standard black model and the PlayStation-branded white model, which feature the same features but use different illustrations. Technically, the discounts started earlier this week, but Backbone says they will last until March 10. Unfortunately, the promotion doesn’t apply to the USB-C version of the device, so Android users or those who plan to upgrade to the iPhone 15 at any time will have to pass quickly.

Still, if you plan on using an iPhone 14 or older phone for gaming in the next few years, the deal should be worth it. As my colleague Mat Smith pointed out in his review, the One is great for remote streaming apps and almost any iOS game that supports a controller, and works out of the box. It has all the buttons you need to play modern games, including pressure-sensitive triggers and analog joysticks, as well as a built-in headphone jack and pass-through charging port. Its clicky face buttons are on the noisy side, and its D-pad is a bit floppy. Still, its rounded grip remains comfortable to hold over time, and it balances the weight better than an Xbox or PS5 pad attached to a mobile gaming clip. It also comes with a handy companion app that you can use to quickly launch games and start party chats. If nothing else, it should be a more cost-effective alternative to cloud-based gaming handhelds like the PlayStation Portal.
